What I thought

What I love about Tayari Jones is that she never makes anyone a villain. Everyone in her books is doing their best with what they were handed, and that generosity makes the conflicts land so much harder. *Kin* is smart and funny in the way real families are funny — the humour sits right next to the ache. It made me think about the things that get passed down quietly: not money or names, but habits, silences, ways of loving. A beautiful, absorbing read.
