PRIVACY NOTICE

This notice describes the handling of information produced when a visitor accesses, navigates or corresponds with Webroom. Access does not require the visitor to establish an identity.

Webroom does not offer visitor accounts, visitor profiles, public comments or payment channels, and there is no public sign-up on the site. A private administrative interface exists so that the rights holder can maintain the material; it is protected by a server-side session cookie and is not available to visitors. The existence of that interface does not mean visitors have accounts.

Two categories of information exist. The first is technical information generated automatically by the delivery of the pages, including the requesting network address, the browser and device characteristics transmitted by the visitor's software, the requested address and the time of the request. This information is processed by the hosting and delivery infrastructure in order to transmit the material, maintain availability and preserve operational security, including protection against abusive request volumes. It is not used to identify individual visitors.

The second is information supplied deliberately. Correspondence sent to the electronic mail address published in section 10 contains whatever the sender chose to include: a return address, a name where given and the content of the message.

The database used by Webroom stores the published material itself — photographs, entries, books, quotations and article references — together with administrative access for the rights holder. It does not store visitor profiles. Webroom does not knowingly collect precise location data, biometric data, financial data or special categories of personal data.

Webroom stores a small amount of state in the browser for interface purposes only. The page framework records scroll positions in session storage so that navigation between pages behaves correctly, and interface preferences may be stored locally where a control requires them. This state remains on the visitor's device, contains no supplied identity or message content, and is not transmitted to Webroom as a visitor record. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are set. Cookies are used only for the private administrative session described in section 01.

Technical information is processed solely to deliver the requested material, maintain availability and prevent abuse or malicious access. Voluntary correspondence is processed only to read, consider and respond to the message sent, and to comply with any legal obligation applying to it.

Technical request information is processed on the basis of the controller's legitimate interest in operating and securing Webroom. Voluntary correspondence is processed on the basis of the controller's legitimate interest in receiving and responding to communications. Where retention or disclosure is required by law, processing is based on compliance with a legal obligation.

Webroom is hosted and transmitted by external delivery infrastructure, which necessarily processes network addresses and request metadata in order to transmit the material and which may retain access logs under its own operational policies. The published material is stored with an external managed database and file-storage provider engaged by the rights holder.

A platform-level error-reporting facility may record technical details of application errors, such as the error message, the address of the page and browser characteristics, so that faults can be repaired. No dedicated audience-measurement or analytics service is installed, and no advertising or attribution service is engaged.

Some pages link to material published elsewhere, including books, quotations and articles. Following such a link places the visitor under the privacy practices of that external service. Electronic mail sent to the published address is received and stored by the corresponding email provider. No information is sold or supplied for external attribution. Information may be disclosed where required by applicable law or necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim. Providers may process information in the jurisdictions where their own infrastructure operates.

Retention is determined by the category and purpose of the information. Technical request information is retained by the hosting infrastructure only for the operational and security periods those providers apply. Error reports are retained for the period applied by the platform facility. Voluntary correspondence is retained for as long as the correspondence remains relevant, and thereafter for any period required by law.

Depending on the visitor's jurisdiction, the visitor may have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent in relation to personal information held about them. These rights are not absolute and may be limited by applicable law.

A request must contain sufficient information to locate the relevant material and is directed to the contact in section 10. A visitor who considers a request improperly handled may lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

Webroom is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person below the age of majority in their jurisdiction. A parent or guardian who believes such information has been supplied may request its removal using the contact in section 10, and it will be deleted.

This notice may be corrected, superseded or revised without prior notice where practice, infrastructure or law changes. The revision value in the register above identifies the current version. Continued access after a revision constitutes acknowledgement of the revised notice.
